SPUG-VISAYAS AIMS ISO CERTIFICATION
FOR BOHOL MINI-GRIDS

Four months after the full takeover of the 12 mini-diesel power plants in different islets in Bohol, SPUG-Visayas under its manager, Mr. Edmundo A. Veloso, Jr. is aiming for ISO certification.
Formerly operated by the Bohol I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BOHECO I), NPC-SPUG took over the function of operating the plants on 01 November 2009 upon the request of the Cooperative due to high operating costs. The plants with capacities ranging from 15 kW to 150 KW and operating for 6 hours a day are located in:
1. Balicasag in Panglao;
2. Cabilao in Loon;
3. Cuaming and Hambongan in Inabanga;
4. Mantatao in Calape;
5. Pamilacan in Baclayon; and,
6. Batasan, Bagongbanwa, Bilangbilangan, Mocaboc, Pangapasan and Ubay in Tubigon.
SPUG Visayas has undertaken restoration and improvements on the power plants in preparation for its application for ISO certification. Most of the plants are located in residential areas, hence, the need to modify the structures from galvanized iron walling to concrete to minimize noise pollution and reduce the effect of corrosion on the generating sets brought about by the salty air. There are more works to be carried-out, such as: additional day tanks for fuel storage; rain water collectors for water supply; oil-water separators; cable trenches; step-up transformers, among others. Implementation of these undertakings is contingent upon availability of funds.
