NPC SIGNS MOA WITH NPP FOR THE USE OF SPUG FACILITIES IN MARINDUQUE, TABLAS AND ROMBLON (June 27, 2008)
President Cyril C. Del Callar and Mr. Manny Castro, President of 3i Powergen, Inc., the New Power Provider (NPP) in the island of Marinduque, Tablas and Romblon have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the use of all of SPUG's facilties in the said islands. The agreement, signed on 30 May 2008, is an interim lease measure providing for the utilization of SPUG's Power plants and related facilities by 3i Powergen prior to the full phase-out of SPUG's operations in the three islands. The areas of Marinduque, Tablas and Romblon are the part of the 14 First wave SPUG Areas that have been opened for private sector participation.
NPPs are private or third party entities that are selected through competitive selection to undertake missionary electrification pursuant to the Department of Energy's Department Circular No. 2004-01-001 seeking to optimize the countryside benefits of missionary activities through the full or gradual privatization of viable islands that are currently served by SPUG.
